Fall Season is Prime Time for Elk-Watching in Ponca | Buffalo Outdoor Center
October 11, 2014
BEST ELK VIEWING TIMES: Just after sunrise or before sunset.
WHERE TO FIND ELK: In the fields of the Boxley Valley along Highway 43, south of Ponca. Also, on Highway 21, from the Hwys 43 & 21 junction, and south toward the Buffalo River Trail trailhead.
Fortunately, elk can be reliably viewed in Ponca throughout the fall and winter and even into April. So, if you can’t make it here during rut season, there’s still plenty of time left to enjoy watching them for the next several months. Bulls drop their racks by early March, so fall and winter make for the best viewing seasons.
